Authentic Art and Ethnographic Objects From Africa / Custom Mounting Services
Unique in my experience, this Toma mask employs warthog tusks as horns. Although blessed with these lifelike horns, the face of the mask remains steadfastly anthropomorphic. Imported into the United States around 1980 by an American working in West Africa, the mask features a long Modiglianiesque face, with slender eyes and pursed lips. It does not fit neatly into the usual categories of traditional wooden ceremonial masks by the Toma, although it most closely meets the criteria of an angbai mask. This example shows significant age and ample use, and is a personal favorite among the many Toma/Loma masks that have passed through my hands. Price on request.
