Authentic Art and Ethnographic Objects From Africa / Custom Mounting Services
This imaginatively constructed and brilliantly crafted neckring was collected in the 1960s in Nairobi, Kenya by Joseph Knopfelmacher (1923-2019), founder of Craft Caravan, the landmark retail emporium that operated from 1969 to 2004 on SoHo’s Greene Street. Joe sold the store in 1985 to his two store managers, Ford Wheeler and Ignacio Villareal, who ultimately acquired sole ownership. Meanwhile, Joe operated as a private dealer and dedicated collector out of the Lower East Side apartment he shared with his wife Margaret. This lovely neckring, mounted on a custom base, was recovered from Joe’s apartment in his final years along with a trove of ethnographic art and artifacts. $375
