Authentic Art and Ethnographic Objects From Africa / Custom Mounting Services
For the Kuba people of the DRC, consumption of palm wine is a strictly social activity. Cups such as this one provided a means for the Kuba to forge special relationships within the community and consolidate unity. These vessels served a social function and were valued accessories. This anthropomorphic Kuba cup features a beautiful patina. It is very typical of Kuba carvers to render the human head in their cup and vessel carvings. Original rattan hanging ring still attached. Ex Merton Simpson.
