Dinka Headrest with Elephant Ears
Wooden headrest from the Dinka of South Sudan. This was a portable piece of furniture; the carved ear-like ends are where a carrying strap would have been placed. African stools, and larger headrests, are typically three-legged because on uneven natural ground and earthen floors, three legs will always sit steady, whereas four legs will rock.
