Authentic Art and Ethnographic Objects From Africa / Custom Mounting Services
The mpooro engorio is a traditional wedding necklace worn by Samburu and Rendille women in northern Kenya. Although some examples are reputably made from the tail hair of giraffes and other large animals, this example, like most, is made of a combination of vegetal fiber and commercial beads. The long fibers in this necklace come from doum palms (Hyphaene thebaica). This mpooro engorio is presented on a custom base that shows off the neckring’s shape and fine craftsmanship. $450
